Simple Server will not properly set its Port, IP, Memory or Slots and thus is broken [Update from the author]
For a few days we were advocating that people install SimpleServer… but then we started getting some complaints.
I looked into it today and discovered that when simpleserver generates its own .properties file, it sets defaults… no matter what you put in it, or any other .properties file. This means that no matter what you tell it, it only listens on the default port, uses a gig of memory and has a zillion slots set.
So, from here on out, we can’t support simpleserver until they fix their nonsense. Sorry!
Here’s the update on our forum with the notification at the bottom:

SimpleServer enforces the settings within simpleserver.properties. If the settings in simpleserver.properties are changed, then the settings in server.properties are changed. SimpleServer is open source and accepting patches. If you want to add an argument to disable properties enforcement then be my guest, but please don’t try to place blame on the shoulders of a developer who provides a free and open source program to the community at large while your company makes money off of it.
Thanks,

Well hello there! Its an unexpected behavior to rewrite defaults into your config when its modified. This seems like something I could work around in my scripts, though. As far as money goes, we don’t make money off of SimpleServer. We make money hosting Minecraft. Simpleserver if anything causes support tickets and hosting problems for us. Sorry! But for a GSP to support mods is rare, and there is a reason for that. We do it because we believe mods make games better.
Nobody meant to offend your mod and many people appreciate your work. We simply thought simpleserver had a bug which caused this unexpected settings rewriting
Thanks for your venerable comment!
