Can’t build or destroy blocks in Minecraft? Move away from your spawn!
Literally about 15% of people who purchase through us come to support and say: “Help! I can’t build or destroy anything on my server! The blocks disappear and come right back!”.
Fear not, it isn’t lag. This is because on the default Minecraft server you are unable to build near the spawnpoint. Move a good 50 blocks away or op yourself and try again… it’ll work just fine.
Some mods remove this limit. Thats probably why most people are expecting to be able to build anywhere. Good luck!
This can be fixed by putting your minecraft account name in the ops.txt file on the server, of course that makes you an admin too.
You can also build if you are op. Just make sure to not build anything which may be use (like a door) because only op will be able to use it. (Well this may be usefull if you want to build something which only op can have access)
That is so annoying, I moved away, and it still woulden’t break, no matter how much i hit it. Te only things i can break is the leaves on a tree.

Actually it is sometimes the server disagreeing with the client about what has been edited. The way you can tell the difference is if it’s the no-build area, it will usually give you a message in red text.
Also I don’t think this is a default setting. The admin needs to enable it. So it’s typical, but it’s not the default.
No, this is by default and this is when the map is created unless you have a mod. The spawn area no matter if you are op is unbuildable. There is also no red text telling you this is spawn area. That is a mod. For the blocks being disagreed on usually happens when you edit a lot of blocks in the same area at one.

Did you move at least 35 block away from spawn?

i have done everything i go as far away as i can and i still can’t build but everyone else can and i made the server

Well then that sounds like a problem you created. Did you add any mods? If everyone else can build and what not and you cant. Its pretty obvious where the fault lies.
Same problem with me except it’s the 2nd player who can’t place or break.
Same thing has happened to me. online is set to false and no mods are loaded. I’m admin and op and i’ve completely left spawn point.
on my server i cant build or delete stuff no mods i made myself op and my friends can build i used to be able to build but for some reason i cant now :/ please help

Its not anything to do with spawn point its something with the server
although it aint lagg
Open the server with the .jar After i did that my i could remove and place blocks again. So don’t open it with .bat
This is a problem with the older craftbukkit. If you update to the newer one it will fix it. Your player data was corrupted.

I’ve tried EVERYTHING! I’ve moved away like 200 blocks from spawn. I’ve reinstalled and force updated minecraft. Deleted all my mods. Deleted the server and tried to make a new one. Deleted plugins. Read through the config files in the essentials plugin back to front. Still no luck. Any help please?
Without actually looking I cant tell you why its happening.
I’m the owner of my bukkit server it hasn’t gone public yet because i cannot build or destroy anything i removed all plugins and mods and retried it it still doesnt work help
If you have moved away from spawn and it still doesnt work. I would check if you are on the correct server. You need the ip and port.
i wached a utube vid it said go to ur essentiaals folder and delete 1 of the .jar folders but were is the essentials folder
I started minecraft a while ago and before hand i have been able to destroy blocks by clicking and holding down. But for some reason when i left click and try to destroy blocks, it doesnt work at all! Please help me, I cant even play minecraft anymore. Although i cant destroy blocks i can still place blocks in creative mode with the right click on the mouse.

Are you running any permissions or block protection? Might not be setup correctly.
no its on both single and multiplayer servers, so its not just one its my whole minecraft

You need to op yourself then to build.
HELP!!!!!!! I can’t move more than 50 blocks away from my spawn because I spawned in a canyon type thing that is 5 blocks tall. I already put my MC username in the ops.txt but I can’t destroy blocks.
I can’t build or destroy ANYTHING! This is just so annoying. I’ve got about 16 blocks of wood, but when I try to place a piece of wood somewhere by right clicking, it wouldn’t appear! I’ve tried to destroy blocks that have already been there by left clicking. I’m just a beginner, so I’m not sure about Minecraft. I just started playing two days ago, and now I don’t understand why all my friends say Minecraft is a really good game. Please help me!
Whenever I build around the spawn, then die, it sends me to some other place.
So how can I edit the spawn without making me spawn elsewhere..?

What i did was delete anything that had to do with the plgin that caused the problem.Then I restarted my server and it worked perfectly !!

Change your gamemode to 3. If your on gamemode 2 you can’t build or break anything, and if your on gamemode 1 your in creative mode.
I cant do seperate blocks for building it only does 1 box
I could not break blocks either.
Fix for me was to go into my minecraft_server directory, cd into the world directory (or whatever your calling it), and DELETE your user.dat file.
I suspect my dat file corrupted due to me messing with server.properties file.
Hi, i had the same issue, solved it going on my client pc (windows 7) on c:\users\my user name\app data\roaming and deleted the folder that contained minecraft data after that just run the launcher, it downloaded some files and it worked just fine.
So it is a client (launcher) issue not a server issue.

usually i can break blocks using any kind of tools e.g. break leaves using shovel..but now i can’t do that anymore not even using hand. then i ask my friend to do the same thing and he’s able to do it.. I’ve already opt myself still nothing changes..
if you have permissions in you server go to the permissions config look for build and if it says false change it to true restart server and it should work
