It’s not available to the public yet, but internally we have an alpha version of Windows hosting for Terraria up.

Our first true Windows hosting box should be coming online within a few days (depending on Christmas) and we should have the panel ready to host Windows games!

This means we’re going to be able to host a TON more games. Terraria will come back, for one. We will also have any of the Modern Warfare games we can host. We will probably also do Unreal engine games, Crytek games and maybe even Battlefield games that we can get working.

I mean, we probably won’t invest all the hours required to host old games, but if we think people are still buying it, we will want to get it hosted.

We’re excited to finally be able to host _everything_. We have been stuck hosting Minecraft for a long time. Getting more games will be amazing for us.

It’s that ‘ho ho ho’ time of year again! Since it appears that we actually are a real company now that actually does have regular customers, we figured we might as well start taking sales seriously.

We rolled out the newest change to the userpanel featuring a mod installer. We are working on adding the most used mod, plugins, and maps to it for all of our games. This will automatically install the files so it is as easy as possible for our users.

You can access it by going to the control panel, under the server tab you will see mod manager.

We just rolled out a ton of changes to HGSPanel today.  For one, SSH now requires a formal request.  If you were a regular user of SSH and want to continue using it, you will need to send in an SSH request with a valid reason for access.  Each of your servers will have a ‘Request SSH Access’ button for this purpose.

When we first started HGS, we had the idea to offer SSH access with every game server. We made it so. We had a couple bumps in the road but for the most part everyone kept to themselves. That has since changed. Each week we have a new offender. People try to DoS from their accounts and people try to fork bomb boxes into the ground. People even host proxies for random people to do bad things with.

Enough already! We’ve made the code changes to deny SSH access and soon it will be rolled out to the servers. We’re sorry to have to do it, but it boils down to one simple breaking point: The amount of good people are getting from SSH is now less than the damage done by the people who abuse it.

We will probably have a system soon so that honest users can make a formal request for SSH and be granted it.

This will cause us to have less server down time and cause us to do less running around. All in all, that means happier users and a healthier company.
