Most companies make you pick a location right when you buy your server – then you’re there… forever. We thought: wouldn’t it be cool if users could actually move their servers to any of our locations… whenever they wanted? What if users could actually choose that they wanted a server hosted on the East Coast in the morning but on the West Coast at night? Well now you can.

All you have to do is log in to your HGSPanel account at http://hgspanel.hostedgameservers.com and stop the server you want to move (remember to save first if needed!). After that, you will see a ‘Migrate Server to New Location’ button in the bottom right corner of the game’s display. Nail that baby and it will ask you which region you want to go to. After you select the region you will be asked to confirm the new IP and Port of your server and it will be queued into the install bot.

Your files and settings will be maintained and the whole thing will basically be transplanted to new hosting under a different ip/port. Your web hosting and voice server will get moved, too. This means it may take a couple hours for your web hosting’s DNS to clear out and work again – but thats expected with any sudden switch in hosting! DNS Cache causes that.

The only caution I must advise is that once you move away from your old ip/port, there is no guarantee that you will ever get it back. If someone else buys a box and slots in where you used to be, we can’t take it back! Only migrate if you are willing to lose your ip/port forever.

So yeah, thats our new feature… you can now move your servers around to any location with available capacity at any time! Enjoy!
